Seed Library Success!

by Pam Nodus

This year was a very successful year for the Tilth Seed Library. A total of 967 seed packets were “checked-out” from the library by our community.

If you have any seeds to contribute, please contact me at pamgar@whidbey.com before donating so we have the necessary information about the seeds before stocking them in the library.

I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage gardeners to buy as many local seeds as possible. Not only are you supporting local farmers, but you are helping our community to have a more self-reliant food supply. I was recently appalled to read that four firms control 60% of the global vegetable seed market.

Deep Harvest is a farm on Whidbey Island who has been a major contributor to our seed library. Please support them. Their website is deepharvestfarm.com. They will be opening their online store in December. Our seed library will reopen in mid-February, in time to plant cool-weather crops.
