Hügelkulture is a slow composting process that mimics natural decomposition of the forest floor. Woody debris is piled into a mounded pit, covered with soil and planted. This is a much better environmental option than burning stumps and wood after logging. The mound retains moisture which sustains vegetables and forbs in drought conditions.
